5 T’ai Chi Tips To Increase Your Enjoyment Of T’ai Chi

T’ai Chi is definitely an exceptional Chinese martial art system for reinvigorating the body and mind.

And because it involves bodily movement and exercise, you’ll need to prepare properly before, during and after every T’ai Chi session.

No matter how experienced you are – and how long you’ve practiced T’ai Chi – here are some helpful tips to keep in mind:

Tip #1

If you’re a beginner – or a more experienced player – it’s perfectly OK to learn from a variety of sources. These can be DVDs, books and online video. It’s important not to dismiss them, as you can pick up many good ideas and tips from lots of different tutors doing this.

Having said that, there will come a time when you’ll want to enrol in a class in your area. This is something you should take your time over to make sure you feel comfortable in the right practice environment amongst other things.

When you look for a good class, you need to pick an experienced and knowledgeable tutor who’ll teach you. You need to feel comfortable that he or she has the right experience to answer all your questions and answers about T’ai Chi.

This is particularly important if you have any physical impairment that could lead to discomfort when you practice T’ai Chi.

A good instructor will listen to any concerns you may have and tailor the classes to help you.

So it’s always best to raise any doubts you have early on with an instructor – and even your medical practitioner – to prevent any problems further down the line.

Like any sport or physical activity, it’s best to warm-up and warm-down before and after practice.

Correct warm-up and warm-downs help you stay flexible and help the body recover quickly.

You might not think T’ai Chi is an energetic and strenuous activity, but rest assured, it gives your joints and muscles a good workout in the most pleasant way. Don’t underestimate how much good it’s doing to your mind, body and spirit.

Think of T’ai Chi as a lifelong study. Don’t force yourself to expect instant results.

Regular practice is the key to success. Just take it easy and enjoy the feelings of your body and mind making the necessary adjustments.

Before you know it, you’ll be in a place mentally and physically you didn’t know existed. That’s the real power of T’ai Chi.

At all times, pay particular attention to all the subtle moves and hand positions. These are vitally important to the deeper understanding of T’ai Chi.

This will become more apparent once you’re happy you’ve memorised the Form completely and feel confident doing it without stopping.

Like anything in life, the longer you do something, the more you understand it hidden depths.

Remember, many health professionals are increasingly recommending T’ai Chi as an additional treatment. Especially people suffering from problems with joint pain, circulation, blood pressure and stress.

So practice regularly and take heed of these tips. That way, you’ll dramatically lessen your chances of needing any additional therapies in the future!
